During recent discussions a friend of mine pointed out certain verses from Bhagwat Gita… and it looks very appropriate.

GOD consumes 100% Satvik food that does not require killing at all. In Bhagwat Gita 9.26 GOD has told what to offer GOD.

patram — a leaf; puspam — a flower; phalam — a fruit; toyam — water; yah — whoever; me — unto Me; bhaktya — with devotion; prayacchati — offers; tat — that; aham — I; bhakti-upahrtam — offered in devotion; asnami — accept; prayata-atmanah — from one in pure consciousness.

Now… where is GOD seated? Please See Bhagwat Gita 15.15

sarvasya — of all living beings; ca — and; aham — I; hṛdi — in the heart; sanniviṣṭaḥ — situated; mattaḥ — from Me; smṛtiḥ — remembrance; jñānam — knowledge; apohanam — forgetfulness; ca — and; vedaiḥ — by the Vedas; ca — also; sarvaiḥ — all; aham — I am; eva — certainly; vedyaḥ — knowable; vedānta-kṛt — the compiler of the Vedānta; veda-vit — the knower of the Vedas; eva — certainly; ca — and; aham — I.

I am seated in everyone’s heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness. By all the Vedas, I am to be known. Indeed, I am the compiler of Vedānta, and I am the knower of the Vedas.

So to offer GOD seated in heart patram — a leaf; puspam — a flower; phalam — a fruit; toyam — water; What is one supposed to eat?

*leaves* automatically falls down from the plants. One can consume that, there is no sin incurred in that.

*flowers* automatically falls down from the plants. One can consume them, there is no sin incurred in that, If the pollen grains are isolated. (Cauliflower, Cabbage etc come under flowers? Countless more varieties of flowers are edible?)

*phalam* both vegetables and fruits come under phalam. Both fruits and vegetables fall down from the plant. There is no sin incurred once the seeds are removed and planted back in soil. This is in fact necessary for plant reproduction.

*water* water is freely available? There is no question of sin in consuming water?
